Senator'S Soup(Navy Bean) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. small white navy beans
    1 c. chopped carrots (1 can)
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 large chopped onion
    4 slices bacon, cut to 1-inch length
    1 Tbsp. salt (optional)
Preparation
    Soak beans in cold water overnight (at least 6 hours).
    In a skillet, fry bacon until crisp.
    Remove to a dish; leave fat in skillet.
    To the fat, add celery and onion; cook to tender stage. Place beans and all other ingredients in slow cooker or Dutch oven.
    Add 6 cups water.
    Cook until beans are tender, about 5 hours.
