Puffy German Feast - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. milk
    1 egg
    bread (preferably thick sliced)
Preparation
    Mix together dry ingredients; add egg, milk and vanilla.
    Beat until smooth. Heat 1/2 inch oil in skillet. Dip slices of bread into batter and fry on both sides until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or put syrup on it.
