Ingredients

3/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 3/4 c. cake flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 stiffly beaten egg whites
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add all sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk and vanilla.
Fold in the egg whites. Bake in 2 layers in moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 30 minutes.
Put layers together with Lemon Filling.
