Southern Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    5 Tbsp. shortening
    2/3 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    butter, leave out until softened
    1 qt. strawberries
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 425\u00b0.
    Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and 3/4 sugar together into bowl and cut in shortening.
    Combine the milk and vanilla.
    Add to dry ingredients and mix well, knead on a floured surface, then put into a 10-inch round cake pan.
    Bake for about 15 minutes (until light brown top).
    Remove from pan and split.
    Butter while hot.
    Mash the strawberries and stir in remaining sugar.
    Place half the strawberries between layers of shortcake and place remaining strawberries on top.
    Serve with home-whipped cream. Yum! Yum!
    Serves 4 to 6.
