Ingredients

2 c. Muscat raisins
2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. solid shortening
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. black walnuts
Preparation

Combine raisins, 2 cups water and 1/2 cup sugar; boil for 15 minutes.
Drain raisins.
Add enough hot water to raisin water to make 2 cups.
Into hot water, add brown sugar, shortening and salt; mix.
Add dry ingredients; mix well.
Bake slowly at 325\u00b0 to 350\u00b0 for about 1 hour.
Done when cake pulls away from sides of pan.
