Ingredients

1 c. white shortening
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
6 egg whites
2 1/2 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1/2 c. boiling water
2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Beat the egg whites until they form a soft peak.
Add 1/2 cup of sugar and beat just until blended.
Put in refrigerator until needed.
Cream shortening and 2 cups of sugar.
Add dry ingredients alternating with the milk.
Fold in beaten egg whites. Add hot water last with vanilla.
