Chow Chow - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. onions, chopped
    5 c. cabbage, chopped or 1 medium cabbage
    10 green tomatoes
    12 green sweet peppers
    1 yellow sweet pepper
    1/2 c. plain salt
    6 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    4 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
Preparation
    Pour salt over mixture of onions, cabbage, tomatoes and sweet peppers.
    Let stand overnight.
    Rinse salt brine off and drain in colander.
    Next day, bring to boil sugar, celery seed, mustard seed, turmeric, vinegar and water.
    Combine all ingredients and pour over vegetables.
    Bring back to a boil, then simmer for 3 minutes.
    Pack in jars and seal.
    Makes 12 pints.
