Mommie'S Okra Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. lean stew beef, chopped
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 1/2 lb. fresh okra, chopped
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 bay leaf
    1 1/2 qt. water
    1 piece breakfast bacon
    4 large tomatoes or 1 (No. 2 1/2) can, undrained
    1 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Braise meat in very little oil.
    Add water, cover and bring to a boil; turn down heat and cook slowly for 1 hour.
    Add remaining ingredients and more water, if needed.
    Cover and cook on low heat for 1 hour or until ready to eat.
