Buttermilk Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    1/2 stick margarine
    1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Combine buttermilk and soda in 3-quart saucepan; let stand for 20 minutes.
    Add sugar and corn syrup; bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar dissolves.
    When boiling, add margarine and cook to soft ball stage (236\u00b0).
    It will be a medium brown in color.
    Cool until lukewarm; beat until mixture loses gloss and thickens.
    Stir in pecans.
    Makes 36 pieces.
