Ingredients

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
5 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. jam (any kind)
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. allspice
1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each one.
Sift flour and spices together.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately.
Mix well.
Add dates, nuts and jam.
Stir well to distribute evenly. Bake in tube pan that is lined with greased, heavy brown paper or in loaf pans for 1 hour or until cake springs back when you press on it.
Bake at 325\u00b0 or 350\u00b0.
