Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

2 oz. red cake coloring
1 1/2 c. and 1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or margarine
2 eggs
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. fresh buttermilk
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. vinegar
Preparation

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs.
Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring, then add to sugar mixture.
Add buttermilk alternately with flour.
Mix soda and vinegar together and fold in carefully.
Bake in 9-inch pans for 25 to 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.
