Gram'S Doughnuts(From Grange Cookbook, Dated 1940) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. flour
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs, well beaten
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 c. milk
Preparation
    Sift flour with baking powder, salt and spices.
    Combine sugar and eggs.
    Add shortening and beat until mixture is light and fluffy.
    Add milk and dry ingredients; mix thoroughly until smooth.
    Handle as little as possible and roll dough on floured board 1/3-inch thick.
    Cut with floured doughnut cutter.
    Fry in deep fat (375\u00b0) until golden brown, turning frequently. Drain on absorbent paper.
    Makes 3 1/2 dozen small doughnuts.
