Sauerkraut And Pork Chops - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (No. 2 1/2) can sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
    2 large onions, thinly sliced
    3 apples, unpeeled and sliced
    4 pork chops
    1/2 c. sugar (optional)
    1/8 c. shortening
    1/2 c. water
Preparation
    Brown chops in shortening in heavy pan.
    Add all other ingredients and cover tightly.
    Cook on slow fire, stirring occasionally until chops are tender.
    Remove cover and let brown. Add more water if needed.
