Debbie'S Sopaipillas - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 Tbsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    2/3 c. lukewarm water (110~ to 115~)
    cooking oil (for deep frying)
    honey or sifted powdered sugar
    ground cinnamon
Preparation
    Stir
    together
    flour,
    baking powder and salt.
    Cut in shortening
    until
    mixture resembles corn meal.
    Gradually add water; stir
    with
    a
    fork (dough will be crumbly).
    Turn onto floured surface; knead into small ball.
    Divide dough in half, cover and
    let
    stand
    for 10 minutes.
    Roll each half into 12 1/2 x
    10-inch rectangle.
    Using a knife or cookie cutter, cut eighteen 2 1/2-inch squares or circles (do not reroll or patch dough).
    Fry a
    few
    at a time in deep hot oil (425\u00b0) about 30 seconds per side.
    Drain on paper towels.
    Serve with honey or powdered sugar and ground cinnamon.
    Makes 18.
