Ingredients

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
3 Tbsp. water
3 c. milk
1/3 c. flour
3 egg yolks
4 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1 baked pie shell
Preparation

Cook the brown sugar and water together to form a syrup.
Make a smooth paste of flour using a small quantity of milk. Scald remaining milk and add beaten egg yolks.
Combine slowly with flour mixture, stir to keep smooth.
Add syrup and place in top of double boiler.
Cook until thick, add butter and vanilla.
