Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. corn meal
    1 1/4 c. water
    1/3 c. milk
    1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    2 tsp. grated onion
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 c. Gold Medal flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar (if desired)
Preparation
    Cook corn meal and water, stirring until stiff and begins to roll into ball, about 6 minutes. Remove from heat; add milk, oil and onion.
    Stir until smooth.
    Gradually stir into beaten eggs in a 2-quart bowl.
    Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting.
    Blend dry ingredients. Add to corn meal batter; blend thoroughly.
    Heat fat (1-inch deep) to 375\u00b0.
    Drop batter by teaspoonfuls into hot fat.
    Fry 6 to 7 minutes. Drain.
    Makes 24 to 30.
