Upside-Down Cherry Cobbler - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. double-acting baking powder
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. milk
    1 (No. 303) can pitted red sour cherries and juice (water packed)
Preparation
    Thoroughly cream together 1/2 cup of the sugar and butter. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt.
    Gradually add milk, mixing thoroughly.
    (There will be a few lumps but don't worry about these.)
    Spread batter in greased square pan (8 x 8-inch or 9 x 9-inch).
    Distribute cherries evenly over batter.
    Pour on cherry liquid.
    Sprinkle cherries with remaining 1/2 cup of sugar. Bake in oven preheated to 375\u00b0 for about 45 minutes or until lightly browned.
