Mom'S Butterscotch Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    3 Tbsp. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt or to taste
    1 c. water
    1 Tbsp. butter
    cream or half and half
    1 tsp. vanilla
    dash of nutmeg
Preparation
    Mix together in saucepan brown sugar, flour and salt.
    Add water.
    Boil 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
    Add butter (thin with cream or half and half until desired consistency).
    Add vanilla and nutmeg.
    Serve over devil's food cake.
