Creole Jambalaya - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. onion, chopped
    1/2 c. celery, chopped
    1/4 c. green pepper, chopped
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    2 Tbsp. butter or olive oil
    2 c. ham or smoked sausage
    1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, chopped
    1 (10 to 12 oz.) can beef broth
    1 c. white rice (uncooked)
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. sugar (if desired)
    1 tsp. thyme
    1/2 tsp. chili powder
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 1/2 lb. uncooked shrimp (fresh or frozen), peeled and deveined
Preparation
    Saute onion, celery, green pepper and garlic in butter or olive oil until tender.
    Add the next 9 ingredients; bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat; cover and simmer until rice is tender, about 25 minutes.
    Add shrimp and parsley.
    Simmer, uncovered, until shrimp are cooked, about 10 minutes.
