Special Occasion Egg Nog - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 eggs, slightly beaten
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    2 c. scalded milk
    2 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. cold half and half
    approximately 2 qt. vanilla ice cream
Preparation
    Combine eggs, sugar and salt.
    Stir in scalded milk and nutmeg.
    Mix well.
    Cook over boiling water on low heat until mixture coats a metal spoon.
    Remove from heat and cool quickly. Stir in vanilla.
    Cover, refrigerate until serving time.
    At serving time, beat until smooth and frothy.
    Stir in half and half.
    Put in punch bowl.
    Float scoops of ice cream on top.
