No Frost Chocolate Chip Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. hot water plus 3 Tbsp.
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 c. chocolate chips
    1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Pour hot water over dates and soda; set aside.
    Cream shortening and sugar, then add eggs.
    Add flour, salt and cocoa alternately with dates, water and soda.
    Add half of chocolate chips.
    Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Sprinkle nuts and rest of chocolate chips on batter.
    Bake 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
