Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. flour
    2 tsp. salt
    2 lb. lean beef, cut in 1-inch cubes
    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1 c. hot water
    2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/2 bay leaf
    1/8 tsp. thyme
    6 small carrots, sliced
    6 small onions (whole)
    6 potatoes, pared and quartered
    1 c. sliced celery
Preparation
    Combine flour and salt in a paper bag.
    Drop in beef, a portion at a time, and shake until coated.
    In a heavy kettle or pot, brown beef over low heat in hot oil.
    Stir water, tomato sauce and seasonings.
    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours.
    Add vegetables.
    Cover; simmer until vegetables are done.
    Serves 6.
