Caramel Topping - cooking recipe

1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Combine all ingredients in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium and cook for 20 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; beat until smooth. Pour over warm cake.
