German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

1/4 lb. sweet cooking chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. (2 sticks) butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Melt chocolate in water; cool.
Cream butter and sugar with electric mixer until lightly fluffy.
Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add chocolate and vanilla; mix well.
Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture, beating after each addition, until batter is smooth.
Beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
Fold into cake batter.
Bake in 3 waxed paper lined 9-inch pans in a 350\u00b0 oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
Cool and frost with Coconut-Pecan Frosting.
