Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter or shortening
1 c. sour milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
2 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
1 egg

Preparation

This cake is a recipe passed down to my mother from my great aunt who lived to be 101 years old.
She used it many times before me, and I use it very often now.
I will pass it on to my niece.
