Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or margarine
1 egg
3 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. ground raisins or dates
1 Tbsp. flour
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. boiling water
chopped nuts, if desired
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening; add egg.
Add dry ingredients and vanilla.
Mix well and roll out thin.
To make filling, boil raisins, water, flour and sugar until clear.
Add nuts.
Spread half of rolled dough with filling.
Then cover with other half of dough.
Use cookie cutter or cut in squares.
Bake at 350\u00b0 until nice and brown.
