Date Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. dates
    2 tsp. baking soda
    2 c. boiling water
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 eggs, beaten
    2 3/4 c. flour
    1 c. nuts
Preparation
    Mix first 3 ingredients.
    Let soak and cool.
    Cream together sugar and shortening.
    Add eggs.
    Combine both mixtures.
    Add flour and nuts.
    Bake 1 hour at 350\u00b0.
