Cherry Trifle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large round sponge cake
    2 cans cherry pie filling (the one that says \"more cherries\" on the label if possible)
    1 large pkg. Cool Whip
    Amaretto (optional)
Preparation
    Cut up or break sponge cake into inch square pieces.
    Set aside 1 cup Cool Whip to frost top.
    Mix the remainder with enough Amaretto to taste, but not enough to thin the Cool Whip too much. Mix the cake with Cool Whip to coat the cake pieces.
