Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced cucumbers
    4 Tbsp. allspice
    4 Tbsp. salt
    4 Tbsp. alum
Preparation
    Cover cucumbers with vinegar, allspice, salt and alum.
    Soak for 6 weeks, then drain and add 5 pounds sugar.
    Cover and keep in a dark place.
    Use as needed.
