Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
3 eggs
2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 stick margarine
pinch of salt
1 pkg. or box vanilla wafers
4 to 6 bananas
Preparation

Separate egg yolks from whites; set whites aside.
Mix sugar, flour, egg yolks, milk, vanilla, butter and salt in a boiler (that will not stick) over medium heat.
Beat egg yolks before adding to flour mixture.
Bring to boil, stirring often.
Continue cooking until it is as thick as you like.
Lay vanilla wafers in bottom of medium casserole dish.
Slice bananas and arrange them on top of wafers.
Pour pudding on top of wafers and bananas.
Chill until thickened.
Whip egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar until stiff.
Spread on top of finished pudding.
Bake until brown.
