Sweet Pickles(14 Days) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    1 pt. salt (to each gal. water)
    2 Tbsp. alum
    2 1/2 qt. vinegar
    8 pt. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mixed pickling spices
Preparation
    Put the cucumbers, cut longways, in brine for 1 week.
    (Brine: Dissolve 1 pint of salt to each gallon of water.)
    Drain well. Cover with boiling water and let stand 24 hours; drain.
    Cover with boiling water with alum.
    Let stand 24 hours.
    Drain real well. Boil vinegar, sugar and pickling spices.
    Let stand 24 hours.
    Do this twice more (with same solution) and can.
    Pack in jars not too tightly and cover with hot solution.
