Barley Chicken Soup] - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 chicken breasts, skinned
    1/4 c. barley
    2 qt. water
    3 large carrots, cut in 1/4-inch slices
    1 large stalk celery, sliced
    1 medium onion
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional)
    1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper (optional)
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients in a large soup kettle.
    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 1/2 hours.
    Yield:
    6 servings.
