Cucumber Pickles #2 - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers
    1 c. lime
    1 gal. water
    1 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. alum
    1 bottle red food coloring
    2 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
    10 c. sugar
    3 sticks cinnamon
    3/4 pkg. red hots, melted
Preparation
    Peel
    and
    core cucumbers;
    slice into rings or sticks. Soak in\tlime
    water
    24 hours.\tDrain and soak in ice water 3 hours. Drain and put in mixture of vinegar, alum and coloring with enough water to cover.
    Simmer 2 hours;
    drain and throw away liquid. Mix the vinegar and remaining ingredients.\tHeat to
    boiling point.
    Pour over cucumbers and let set 24 hours. Drain;
    save liquid.
    Pack pickles in jars; bring liquid to a boil and pour over pickles.
    Seal.
