Library Paste - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. flour
    2 c. water
    1/2 tsp. powdered alum
    15 drops oil of cloves
Preparation
    Mix ingredients, except oil of cloves, together in a pan and cook over low flame, stirring constantly, until thick.
    Remove from fire and add oil of cloves.
    This prevents spoilage and gives the paste a nice odor.
    Pour into jars.
    The recipe makes one pint.
    If made as directed, the paste will keep several months.
