Ingredients

2/3 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. soft shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. molasses
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. sifted flour (self-rising)
1 tsp. ground ginger
Preparation

Mix the first 6 ingredients together.
Sift together the flour and ginger and mix all together to make a stiff dough.
Divide in 10 equal parts.
Pat out in thin layers in 8-inch well greased pans.
Bake at 450\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes until brown.
Cool and fill between layers with cooked, sweetened and mashed dried apples which have been seasoned to taste with cinnamon and apple pie spice.
