Holiday Jam Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. shortening
    3 eggs
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 c. berry jam
    3 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. raisins
    1 c. grated coconut
    1 large apple, grated
    chopped dates (if desired)
Preparation
    Cream the sugar and shortening.
    Add eggs and mix well. Combine buttermilk and jam and add alternately with sifted dry ingredients.
    Add nuts and fruit last and stir well.
    Bake in three 9-inch layers for 30 or 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
