New England Bread Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/2 c. milk
    1/4 c. butter
    2 c. dry bread cubes
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    1/2 c. sherry
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. mace
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 c. seedless raisins
    1/2 c. thinly sliced citron (optional)
Preparation
    Preheat oven to moderate (375\u00b0).
    Scald the milk. Add the butter and pour the hot liquid over the bread cubes. Soak about 5 minutes, then add the sugar, eggs, sherry and spices. Add the raisins and citron.
    Pour the mixture into a buttered baking dish. Set the dish in a pan of hot water and bake until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean or 1 hour.
