Apple Balls - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. water
    4 cloves
    sliced rind of 1/2 lemon
    1 1/2 c. apple balls
    red or green food coloring
Preparation
    Combine sugar, water, cloves and lemon rind.
    Cook for several minutes until syrupy.
    Remove cloves and lemon rind.
    Add apple balls (apples should be peeled and cut with a melon ball cutter). Add 1 or 2 drops food coloring.
    Cook until apples are tender. Chill and serve with roasted meats or poultry.
