Western Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 slices bacon, diced
    1 large onion, chopped
    1/3 c. dry lentils, cook until tender
    1 1/3 c. water
    2 Tbsp. ketchup
    1 tsp. garlic powder
    1/2 tsp. ground cumin
    1/4 tsp. dried red pepper flakes
    1 bay leaf
    1 can whole tomatoes, chopped, and liquid
    1 can pinto beans, drained
    1 can kidney beans, drained
Preparation
    Lightly fry bacon.
    Add onion and saute, drain.
    In large pot, mix rest of ingredients.
    Cook slowly, stirring once or twice. Remove bay leaf before serving.
    May be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated and reheated before serving.
    Serves 10 to 12.
