Congo Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 3/4 c. flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 (7 oz.) pkg. chocolate bits
    1 c. black walnuts (optional)
    2/3 c. shortening
    3 eggs
    1 lb. brown sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 Tbsp. water
Preparation
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
    Melt shortening (I prefer Crisco); add sugar.
    Stir and let cool slightly.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.
    Add dry ingredients and water, then nuts and bits.
    Pour in greased 16 x 10-inch pan; spread evenly and bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Do not overbake.
    Cut in bars or squares when cool.
    Makes delicious dessert if cut a little larger, topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
