Astoria Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 eggs
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 oz. red food coloring
    2 1/2 c. cake flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 oz. water
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar until light.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each.
    Make a paste of cocoa, coloring and water; add to the creamed mixture.
    Add salt and flour alternately with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.
    Add vanilla last, then mix soda with vinegar and add to the mixture.
    Do not beat at this stage; just fold gently until blended.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
