Virginia Spoonbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. milk
    3/4 c. yellow cornmeal
    1 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. butter, melted
    3 eggs, separated
    2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Scald milk.
    Sift in cornmeal slowly while stirring and cook until thickened.
    Add salt, sugar, shortening and beaten egg yolks.
    When thoroughly blended, add the baking powder and fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Turn into a well-greased 1 1/2-quart baking dish and bake in hot oven (400\u00b0) for 20 to 25 minutes.
    Serve with a spoon from the dish in which it was cooked. Serves 6.
