Surprise Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 pt. strawberries
    5 c. whipped topping (Dream Whip, Cool Whip or whipping cream)
    8 to 12 slices white bread
    butter
    sugar
Preparation
    Slice fresh or frozen strawberries, reserving a few for garnish.
    Crush about half.
    Drain, if using frozen, reserving juice.
    Make 5 cups of whipped topping.
    Butter one side of 8 to 12 trimmed slices of white bread; sprinkle with sugar.
    Measure 1/2 cup juice from berries.
    Set aside.
