Captain Billy Bush'S Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. milk
    1/2 c. sugar
    4 tsp. salt
    8 Tbsp. shortening
    2 c. water
    1 cake yeast
    1/4 c. lukewarm water
    12 c. (about) sifted flour
Preparation
Scald milk and add sugar, salt and shortening.
After shortening melts, add water and cool until lukewarm.
Add yeast, softened in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.
Never use hot water as it kills the working power in the yeast (105\u00b0 to 115\u00b0).
Add flour gradually, mixing it in thoroughly.
When dough is stiff, turn on a lightly floured board and knead until smooth and satiny.
Shape into a smooth ball; place in a greased bowl.
Cover with wax paper and a tea towel.
Let rise in a warm place until it doubles in bulk.
