Ingredients

4 egg yolks or 2 whole eggs
1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. shortening (soft)
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation

Beat in large bowl, eggs, sugar and shortening for 1 1/2 minutes.
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.
Add 2 cups flour mixture to egg mixture.
Beat until blended.
Stir in remaining flour mixture.
Chill dough for 2 hours in refrigerator.
Roll dough out on floured surface.
Cut with floured cutter.
Fry at 375\u00b0 until brown, turning over once. Put on rack to cool.
Store in plastic bags and freeze.
