Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

1 3/4 c. flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. unsweetened applesauce
Preparation

Set oven at 350\u00b0 then grease and flour a loaf pan, 9 x 5 x 3-inch.
Sift together the first 6 ingredients.
Cream shortening, adding sugar gradually.
Continue to beat until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well, stirring in applesauce.
Add sifted dry ingredients, stirring only enough to blend.
Pour into pan and bake 50 to 60 minutes or until cake springs back when touched. Cool in pan 5 minutes, then remove from pan and cool on a rack. Frost with Butter Frosting.
