Old-Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef, cut in 1-inch cubes
    flour
    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 or 2 bay leaves
    5 to 6 medium potatoes, quartered
    4 to 6 carrots, quartered
    3 medium onions
Preparation
    Roll meat cubes in flour; brown in a Dutch oven with vegetable oil.
    Cover with water; add salt and bay leaves.
    Simmer slowly for about 2 hours, adding water if needed, until tender.
    Add potatoes, carrots and onions.
    Simmer for 30 minutes more or until vegetables are done and liquid has thickened into gravy.
    Makes 6 to 8 servings.
