Ingredients

2 c. boiling water
1 pkg. dates, cut fine
2 tsp. soda
1 c. butter
2 c. white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
pinch of salt
1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation

Pour water over dates and soda; let cool.
Cream butter and sugar; add beaten eggs and stir.
Add flour and salt.
Mix together with date mixture.
Add nuts.
Pour into lined greased 9-inch square pan or 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
Bake 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.
Top with whipped cream if desired.
May be served warm or cold.
