Oriental Beef - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. round steak, 3/4-inch thick
    small amount oil
    1 c. water
    2 Tbsp. soy sauce
    chopped onion
    1 c. carrot slices
    1 c. celery slices
    1/2 green pepper, cut in strips
    1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
    1 small can water chestnuts, sliced
    salt to taste
    1/4 c. cold water
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
Preparation
    Cut meat into strips, 1/4-inch wide and 2 to 3 inches long. Brown in small amount of oil; drain.
    Add 1 cup water, soy sauce and chopped onion.
    Cover and simmer 45 minutes.
    Then add carrot, celery, green pepper, mushrooms, water chestnuts and salt to taste.
    Cover and cook 15 to 20 minutes; do not overcook.
    Combine cold water and cornstarch and gradually add to hot meat and vegetables, stirring constantly until mixture boils and thickens. Serve over rice.
    Yields 4 servings.
