Chocolate Nut Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. light cream
    1 c. butter
    1/2 c. light corn syrup
    2 (2 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 to 1 1/2 c. pecan halves
Preparation
    Combine sugar, salt, cream, butter, syrup and chocolate in large heavy saucepan.
    Bring to gentle boil over low heat.
    Cook, stirring frequently until mixture reaches firm-ball stage.
    Remove from heat; cool 5 minutes.
    Stir in vanilla and pecan halves. Pour into buttered 8-inch square pan.
    Cool.
    Cut in 1-inch squares; wrap in waxed paper.
    Makes 64 caramels.
